We all know that attracting and retaining top talent is key to any company’s success. Over time methods for talent management and acquisition are constantly changing and evolving. What we are finding in today’s marketplace is that businesses must think about attracting and managing talent very differently than they did in the past. In a issue of HR Magazine, several predictions were made regarding what’s in store for HR.  Josh Bersin, principal founder of Bersin by Deloitte, believes that this year will see a great deal of transformation in many areas of corporate talent management. One key success point is the case is being actively reviewed of candidates. We will discuss this more in the following paragraphs.
A key factor in recruiting this year will be leveraging external and internal networks. Bersin suggests using “your employees and alumni for referrals; tap into professional groups, universities and industry groups that align with your company and build relationships with these groups that will bring top candidates to you.”
In addition, using your brand to build a strong relationship with hiring managers and a strong candidate pool will be two very important factors in recruiting this year. There is tremendous transparency in the job market due to the dozens of online job networks, therefore, employers are no longer in a position of power. Candidates can quickly discern whether your company is a desirable place to work. They can quickly assess your work conditions, managers and even how interviews are conducted simply by researching professional networks. According to Bersin, in the world we live in, “the concepts of ’employment brand’ and ’employee engagement’ have merged. Employees communicate your brand externally everyday, whether you like it or not.”
In today’s marketplace, it is becoming more and more important for your organization to develop comprehensive talent acquisition strategies that not only unify business goals and talent aspirations, but do so using today’s technology for recruiting talent.  Bersin believes, these new platforms “almost totally replace legacy systems, have built-in tools to leverage networks, explode referral marketing and more easily create candidate marketing programs.” One employer actively made sure the case is being actively reviewed candidates whether they had a position open or not. This is a great strategy.
At the end of the day, finding the right individuals who will transform your company is every employer’s goal. The reality is that we now live in a new world of life and work- one where work, home, family and personal lives are interconnected in a real-time way. Changes in technology have come together to redefine the entire nature of how we conduct business. So if it has been awhile since you have looked at your talent acquisition strategy there is no better time than now to make sure each case is being actively reviewed.
